They did the most impressive stall with a beautiful tissue paper backdrop in rainbow colours - and I thought what a brilliant idea for our Christmas decorations this year! Miniature Milo the Sailor Boy

Image
Miniature Milo the sailor boy, available here Shelley and I only have girls, I have three, Shelley has two. This makes it tricky for us to come up with cute Sweet William products for boys but I think you will agree this one ticks all cuteness factors! Meet little Milo the Sailor boy . Now available in our etsy shop. Milo is a tiny little pocket doll.  He lives in a matchbox ship with his pet cockatoo. He dreams about all his wonderful adventures on the high seas, visiting foreign lands and making new friends. He is hand stitched on to felt, slightly stuffed and sits neatly in his little matchbox home.  MIlo is friends with miniature Camille.  The matchbox measures approximately 2 inches. There is a drawing of a ship on the front and an illustration of a wave on the back. All illustrations done by me, Paula Mills.

The naturalist

Image
A dear friend of mine has recently started her own creative business called The Naturalist. She asked me to design the logo, which was an easy job for me, as I love her vision and could capture what she wanted very easily. The Naturalist is all about beautiful flowers, vintage finds and quirky little cabinet of curiosity gifts. You can have a look at the blog here , facebook page here  , brand new etsy shop here and pinterest boards here . The Naturalist is holding it's debut market on Sunday the 1st of September at the Greville Village market in Prahran, Melbourne. Be sure to pop along, Greville Street is always a great day out!

Little miniature Camille

Image
We love our little Camille! She has been part of the Sweet William range for some time now but we never get sick of her. There have been a few colour changes along the way but otherwise her cuteness hasn't changed. She is 100% lovingly handmade. Here she is in her little matchbox home. Available in our etsy shop .

Merry Christmas 2011!

Image
Dear lovely blog readers. Shelley and I have had a wonderful year with Sweet William - we have been flattered by some great features, our online sales and markets have been amazing and we have thoroughly enjoyed all the positive support. Sweet William started as a small creative outlet for the two of us and we are proud of how it has grown into a something that enables us to keep being creative and passionate about what we do. We are taking a break from now until the 10th of January. ( I am going camping with my family and Shelley is finishing off her house!) We wish everyone a blessed and creative Christmas and all the very best for 2012. Here are some shots of my lounge room in all it's pink and silver hand made Christmas glory! Paula x

artist profile - Cuckoonest

Image
Recently, Kim from Cuckoonest made the most gorgeous little mail box for my daughter, Layla. At the moment, Layla is really into mail, envelopes, stickers and stamps, so I though a little mailbox for her birthday would be fun. Kim's creation is so much more than that. One side unzips to receive the mail, and a little mouse lives in the mail box, with her budgie, chimney and pretty toadstool garden. The whole piece is so joyful and imaginative. I really wanted to do a little feature on Cuckoonest as I love all the work. Kim was kind enough to answer a few questions. Questions 1) Since you have started Cuckoonest what has been the most joyful and the most challenging? Its the most wonderful feeling being my own boss and being able to charter my own creative course everyday. Being able to contribute to the family income (however modestly) from home whilst caring for my family has kept me true to my goals -I always want to be available for my family and working hard and being cr...

Layla turns 7

Image
My daughter is 7 today! We had a great day, 5 little girlfriends off to the movies this morning. Then back to our place for cake and tea. We kept it simple and it worked like a charm - no hyped up anything, it was smooth, gentle and relaxed. Some of the party decorations came from a gorgeous little Golden Book I found about a month ago. Its a story about a little girl called Molly who is having a party, but its billed as a Party Cut- Out book and it has invitations, place cards, decorations and games to cut out and use - I am so grateful that whoever had it before me did not cut anything out!. I though you might like a little place card download, if you click on the images (front and back) it should give you a decent print size.

ways with wallpaper

Image
It can be fun to come up with new ways of using what's in ones stash. I have a stash of wallpaper, which today got the chance to become something new again. A little wallet, a poshed-up bulldog clip and an early start to christmas decorations. {someone else appreciated our little re-interpretations and included us in a great article. Read Dionne's piece here }

I love the bill blues

Image
Yes, you heard me right, I love the bill blues, but not the blues that come with paying bills. I'm talking about the blue prints you find on the inside of envelopes - ooh yes, when I open a bill, that's the first thing I look at (the bill itself can wait). I usually put the nice ones aside for my ever mounting paper pile collection. I turned by latest pile of envelopes into a garland. Now, that's a cheerful thing to do with a bill don't you think?

In the mood for a little printing

Image
I felt like printing today, so I though I would show you what I got up to. First I took papers from an old book. Then sewed them together to make a little bag On some old frame glass I spread the ink - tacky is the consistency you want - it makes a lovely velcro sound as you roll back and forth. Rolled onto the lino (a good tip is to roll in one direction only, so as to get an even spread) The best part is the print and reveal - a good even pressure will give nice results. I don't have a fancy press - just use my hand or an iron. Make the most of the wet paint and print onto lots of lovely things.
