The naturalist

Image
A dear friend of mine has recently started her own creative business called The Naturalist. She asked me to design the logo, which was an easy job for me, as I love her vision and could capture what she wanted very easily. The Naturalist is all about beautiful flowers, vintage finds and quirky little cabinet of curiosity gifts. You can have a look at the blog here , facebook page here  , brand new etsy shop here and pinterest boards here . The Naturalist is holding it's debut market on Sunday the 1st of September at the Greville Village market in Prahran, Melbourne. Be sure to pop along, Greville Street is always a great day out!

New Work - Voice of Nature

Image
These illustrations have come about from a combination of elements: an old vintage diary, that is part of my ephemera collection, which holds a page of beautiful handwritten blue ink verse about the three voices of Nature appealing to the hand, heart and head; a bunch of Australian native plants that were sitting on my kitchen table and a recent trip to Ireland in the Summer where I was surrounded by the most beautiful wild flowers.  Each print is a high quality Epson ink jet, using archival inks, on Epson A4 matte heavyweight, bright white card, which will be signed by me, Paula Mills. The actual artwork measures approximately 8 x 10 inches (200mmx270mm). A white border will be left for framing. Available in our esty shop here .

Little miniature Camille

Image
We love our little Camille! She has been part of the Sweet William range for some time now but we never get sick of her. There have been a few colour changes along the way but otherwise her cuteness hasn't changed. She is 100% lovingly handmade. Here she is in her little matchbox home. Available in our etsy shop .

New Bright Geometric Sweet William Prints

Image
I think one of the challenges of an artist or illustrator is working out your own 'personal style'.  Finding a style that feels comfortable and that comes easily, is quite a challenge. Then, just when you feel you are settling into something which you can claim as your own  - wham! A whole new direction comes along! I suppose it is good to embrace change and never stagnate. I do love a bit of diversity. I have been very inspired by all the bright colours, clean geometric shapes and graphics that are around at the moment. (Check out Marimekko's website for a big dose of bright poppy graphics - amazing!) While I have always been drawn to colour and pattern, have dabbled with a bit of collage and abstract work, I will admit that these four pieces of work are quite different to anything else I have done...but I am still happy for them to sit amongst the rest of the Sweet William creations because at the end of the day they are still unique to me. I hope you enjoy...

I am loving crystals and minerals

Image
My mini mineral collection I am loving all things crystal and minral at the moment as well as coloured glass. I think it brings out the kid in us - looking for treasures in the earth...At my local farmers market the other day I bought a few little mineral rocks from a scratch patch bowl  - such fun and they have made an instant mini collection.
